As a result of my stint with breast cancer in April and May, I started a Breast Cancer Support Group here at Charlestown. Two other cancer survivors supported me when I needed a trip to the doctor when Dan was not available. I found it so helpful to hear their stories and feel the encouragement and support radiating from them that we decided to reach out to others.
The first meeting held in September saw 10 women gather to share their journeys. Some were long-term survivors (37 years) to newly diagnosed. When a few other friends mentioned their cancer battles that were not breast cancer, the group decided to be more inclusive and invited them in.
After a few months of trying to find a mutually agreeable day and time, we settled on the second Monday of the month at 2:00 PM. We now have 26 people on the mailing list, both women and men attending.
