Norway Coastal Voyage

The trip to Norway is over with memories to last our lifetime. It was truly a “bucket list” type of trip. We did a 15-day tour arranged by Legendary Journeys. We had a one day Norway in a Nutshell® tour before getting on the Hurtigruten Cruises Midnatsol for a 12-day round-trip coastal tour, Bergen to Bergen. We cruise included stops at 34 ports during the day and night, a trip into the Geiranger Fjord going north and trips into the Troll Fjord going north and south. We ended up in Kirkenes near the Russian border before turning around. We stayed up for the Midnight Sun and fortunately the weather cooperated so have clear skies that night. We also took the ships tours in Trondheim, Tromso and the Lofoten Islands.

I traveled with my iPad which worked out great. I had Internet access on the ship, played games, read books, and even had Dan playing Solitaire on it.

We are truly blessed to have the health and money to travel. All the arrangements and pickups worked. Prices are high in Norway so we got used to a $5 soda or a $9 beer. The only downer of the trip was the hour long queue to get through passport control, then the baggage through customs, and security with shoes off at the Dulles airport. Not one person cracked a smile through the process. The customs guy told us to hurry us as we dragged our luggage through. We both have gray hair and I was using a walking stick, but we get the “hurry up.” Thank heaven we had a two hour time frame before the flight to Atlanta. I wonder how visitors coming to the United States are  treated.
