When I received an email from a travel agency advertising a 2 for 1 sale on the American Queen, it only took me a few days to convince Dan it was the thing to do. So what if it was in February, still winter here in Maryland. My bucket list included a trip on a steam paddle boat so here was a chance to do it while it was affordable. So from February 22 to March 1 we traveled on the American Queen from New Orleans to Vicksburg and back. It is a wonderful way to travel. Granted the staterooms are small but we managed with an inside cabin. The outside cabins at the discounted price were all taken. We were a few doors from the Front Porch which served breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as 24/7 drinks and snacks including cookies, popcorn, soft serve ice cream and mixed nuts.
