A month later and still no social media. It has been easier than I thought. I do have moments when I read a newsletter or a website and they reference their Facebook page, but I have resisted.
I am in contact with my siblings and friends via FaceTime and texting so I am still connected. I also am making phone calls and actually talking to friends rather than commenting on a Facebook post. In fact, I have had more fulfilling interactions without Facebook.
I don’t miss Twitter as I didn’t use it regularly. I would occasionally use a hashtag (#) to check on a topic as people live “tweeted.”
Instagram was another app I used to follow a few people. As with Twitter, I rarely used it. I only have a few photos posted and they were from years ago.
Cal Newport’s new book, Digital Minimalism, is my current read. I knew social media can be addictive but I didn’t realize apps are deliberately made to cause addiction.
My ongoing project is to unsubscribe from newsletters that I subscribed to for a reason that is no longer applicable.
