Charlestown turned 35 this year and our Elderhostel Lifelong Learning Institute (ELLIC) at Charlestown turned 10 years old. When the younger generation goes back to school so do we. The catalog comes out on September 6 and by the end of day many classroom programs are fill with waiting lists.
The Steering Committee wrote its history saying:
While ELLIC differs substantially from university programs from which it was modeled, it serves the needs of Charlestown very well. It provides residents who have passions for a variety of subjects and an opportunity to share their passion, ideas and expertise. This in turn gives residents enrichment in education and entertainment with mutual benefits. The scale of ELLIC at Charlestown exceeded our expectations and has become an important highlight in the diverse activities offered at Charlestown.
The auditorium programs have outside speakers that offer a variety of interesting programs. I was fortunate enough to get registered for all the programs I requested. A sample of October programs shows the diversity offered.
We play only $15 for each semester which allows a member to sign up for as many courses as they want. The only restriction is the availability of room since classrooms are used for some programs.
